Department of General Surgery

The Department of General Surgery is one of the key departments among clinical specialties. The department was started as a part of Sri Aurobindo Institute of Medical Science in 2003. It is our honor to have Dr Vinod Bhandari, Founder Chairman, SAIMS , as the founding stone of the department as a part of this esteemed institution.

Post-graduation course in General Surgery first started in 2012. Over the years the department has evolved and has maintained pace with changing times and needs of the society.

Today, besides training undergraduates and postgraduates in General Surgery, the department is proud of performing state-of-the-art specialty clinical work including esophagogastric, pancreato-biliary, colorectal, breast, endocrine, head & neck minimal access surgeries. The department accomodates 24 critical care beds of Burn, Adult and Pediatric Surgery ICU. Another feather in the crown of the departmental infrastructure includes Skill and Dry Labs which facilitate simulation training under the esteemed leadership of Professor and Head of the Department, Dr. Manoj Kela, who takes a keen interest in teaching.

The Department of General Surgery at Sri Aurobindo institute of medical science, caters to the surgical needs of the local population by providing state-of-the-art facilities in addition to imparting core training to Undergraduate and Postgraduate trainees. The department has been committed to providing outstanding patient care to the population of Central India since its foundation

Our rigorous post graduate training program which is committed to producing well rounded surgeons with potential to become the next generation of leaders in surgery. We are currently eligible to admit 15 surgical residents each year exclusively through the NEET PG exam and counseling.

The department comprises of well-trained faculty, post graduate students and interns aiming to provide the best possible care for the thousands of patients visiting us every year. We have 8 independent surgical units comprising of a total of 24 teaching faculty of various specialties to ensure the effective functioning of the daily clinical and academic duties. The department also has 3 administrative staff attached who serve as point of contact for all faculty and students as well as providing administrative support for various departmental activities.
